The been-there-done-that trailer for director Tony Scott's Déjà Vu definately makes you feel you've sat through it once before already. And it wasn't good the first time either.
Déjà Vu, cue annoying VO, does just about everything wrong it can in making you want to see this film. While it's very cutesy to show us the signature card for Jerry Bruckheimer Films twice (get it, huh-huh?), it just doublely reinforces that, well, it's a Jerry Bruckheimer production. So, at least there's a 50-50 chance it's something worth while, but who can tell from such a mess?
It might be true, maybe it's a classic. Hard to tell with this disjointed trailer. Denzel Washington doesn't quite have the best box office returns or acclaim with science fictiony thrillers to inspire confidence in what this trailer attempts to sell as true. We've all seen that before and, well, we'd rather not again.
But yet, the trailer gives us one small hope for our time during the credits card at the end. There we learn the movie is co-written by box office gold mine Terry Rossio (screenwriting genius of Aladdin, Small Soldiers, The Mask of Zorro, Shrek and Pirates of the Carribbean franchise). At least that's something.
The best thing I can say about the Déjà Vu trailer is that the encoding isn't half-bad. But going to the theater to see this, no way. I have a feeling this one will miss me until it ends up playing on cable.
