Trailer:Shrek the Third

Type:Trailer
Release Date:May 18, 2007
In Short:No, you i'dn't
Deciding to settle as their only choice with one of the lesser voice talents in Hollywood trailerdom, Shrek the Third seems like it'll be the usual family-fun fun-fun-funny Far Far Away money making fair everyone expects. So in that case, time to nitpick.

The sad use of the weakest voice over talent since Georgia State educational films let's you know where the so-called heart of the Big Studio is: get it out, it'll work, yet again. Who can blame them? Oh, yeah, I have a blog, it's easy! So let me pronounce: They doth suck.

Enjoy the movie, hopefully they hired a professional for any V.O. sequences.

Okay, I couldn't let the so-called writers this trailer get away with it either since, you know, they claim they're under-paid and under-appreciated , so sing along now everybody:

It was just a regular day in Far, Far Away.
Now, with evil forces gathering...
Shrek is on a misson to find the True King.
But the question is...
This summer...
Old friends are changing...
New friendships are beginning...
And the ladies...
Are no longer in waiting.
It's a whole new chapter...
Of the greateast fairy tale never told.
Dreamworks. Shrek the Third.

Egads! Truly great work guys. You earned it.

Apple Movie Trailers Review - Déjà Vu

Trailer:Déjà Vu
Movie Info:IMDb   WikiP   Site (UK)
Type:Trailer
Release Date:November 22, 2006
In Short:Already Seen It.

The been-there-done-that trailer for director Tony Scott's Déjà Vu definately makes you feel you've sat through it once before already. And it wasn't good the first time either.

Déjà Vu, cue annoying VO, does just about everything wrong it can in making you want to see this film. While it's very cutesy to show us the signature card for Jerry Bruckheimer Films twice (get it, huh-huh?), it just doublely reinforces that, well, it's a Jerry Bruckheimer production. So, at least there's a 50-50 chance it's something worth while, but who can tell from such a mess?

It might be true, maybe it's a classic. Hard to tell with this disjointed trailer. Denzel Washington doesn't quite have the best box office returns or acclaim with science fictiony thrillers to inspire confidence in what this trailer attempts to sell as true. We've all seen that before and, well, we'd rather not again.

But yet, the trailer gives us one small hope for our time during the credits card at the end. There we learn the movie is co-written by box office gold mine Terry Rossio (screenwriting genius of Aladdin, Small Soldiers, The Mask of Zorro, Shrek and Pirates of the Carribbean franchise). At least that's something.

The best thing I can say about the Déjà Vu trailer is that the encoding isn't half-bad. But going to the theater to see this, no way. I have a feeling this one will miss me until it ends up playing on cable.

Apple Movie Trailers Review - Little Children

Trailer:Little Children
Movie Info:IMDb   WikiP   Site
Type:Trailer
Release Date:October 6, 2006
In Short:Perfecto.

I refuse to believe that Todd "Nick Nightingale" Field has created a movie as engaging as the trailer for his adaptaption of Tom Perrotta's novel Little Children. There's just no way.

The Little Children trailer is an impressive work that knows it's hard to resist watching a train wreck. To that end, the trailer seductively lulls you in with an off-in-the-distance train whistle building to warn of the impending collision between the characters' hearts and their desires. Of course you're going to watch until the crash, they've got your full attention

The dead man's handle of this trailer may be the fact that it's just too good. It has the feel of being a better crafted representation than the movie it's promoting. I'm not sure Field can make the film this trailer promises — as that would be an incredible directing achievement. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Little Children sounds great, looks crisp and works perfectly from beginning to end.

Apple Movie Trailers Review - 300

Trailer:300
Movie Info:IMDb   WikiP   Site
Type:Teaser Trailer
Release Date:March 9, 2007
Music:Just Like You Imagined
by Nine Inch Nails
In Short:This is madness!

300, based on the Frank Miller graphic novel, is an epic retelling of the Battle of Thermopylaeone, one of ancient history's most defining and pivotal military engagements between Greek and Persian armies. This beauty stands heroically alone on Apple's Movie Trailers Site, having just completely vanguished an army of strong competitors. It's not even close to a fair fight. This is the New Standard for online trailers.

Amazingly crystal clear picture, amazing sound, amazing build. Amazing. How can I resist utterly stunning visuals as every line of dialogue is shouted above a totally immersive soundtrack?

I cannot stop watching this trailer. I'm going to Best Buy and make a blueshirt download the 300 HD trailer to his near as most magicky uber-HDTV piped through some "23.5 Channel" Surroundwhatever / WiFi / Bluetooth / Car / Cranium Implant sound system they can pull together in under 5 minutes.
